Cultivars

Here are some of the representative varieties we carry at Hara Farm.

​Ando Mikan

Period: November-January

Cultivation: much

Features: An ancient variety with a sweet and sour bitter flavor similar to grapefruit, it's easy to pair with food.

Bergamot

Period: January-February

Cultivation: Very little

Features: Also used as a flavoring for Earl Grey, it's a crossbreed involving Buntan, mandarin orange, and citron. Its pulp has a strong bitter taste.

Kaffir lime

Period: August-October

Cultivation: Medium

Features: A type of citrus native to Thailand and other Southeast Asian countries, it belongs to the mandarin family. Its leaves have a distinctively strong aroma.

Buntan Chandra Pomero

Season: January-February

Cultivation: Very little

Features: A large fruit spanning over 20 cm in diameter and 700 to 1500 g in weight, its flesh is yellow with a reddish tinge with a fleshy texture and a slightly bitter flavor. Its skin is tough but not hard enough to prevent it from being easily peelable.

Kunenbo

Period: January-March

Cultivation: Medium

Features: The parent of citrus fruits such as satsuma mandarin, hassaku orange, jabara, and kabosu, it has an iron-like flesh.

Finger lime

Period: August-October

Cultivation: Medium

Characteristic: Sometimes called lime caviar because of how the vesicles are pushed out when the skin is pressed with the fingers. Its flesh varies from pink, green, and light purple.
